about

This song, which I wrote for my husband Alan, features the late Charles Neville on tenor sax. Charles recorded with us not long before his death. He nailed the song in two takes, then spent an hour entertaining us with tales of his legendary career, like the record project "somewhere in Alabama" that had a $10,000 drug budget, getting arrested in New Orleans for being himself, the incredible musicians he found in jail...

Charles lived through some crazy times and yet stayed open and loving. We were, and are, blessed by him, and will always be grateful for his gentle soul and huge talent.

lyrics

Touch Me

I have fallen down into you
I’m breathlessly awaiting my next cue
I know it’s about we, too
But you’re surrounding me
It’s your move

Your touch is like a shelter
On a mountain side
Ancient and warm
Safe from the storm
Waiting for me

Your touch is like a summer sky
So deep and wide
A place to fly
Where every day I’m free

All I want to do
Is touch you
The way you touch me

We flow together
My belly touching your skin
This is the place you’ve known me forever
Where I end and you begin

Your touch is like the glimmer
Through the apple trees
Waiting at dawn
To hear my song
Sing it with me

Your touch is like the river
Through a field of corn
Running back home
Over pebbles and stones
Always knows where I’ll be
And all I want to do is touch you
The way you touch me

about

Abby Straus Northampton, Massachusetts

A veteran writer and producer, Abby got her start in the rough-and-tumble NY music scene of the '80s. But her sensibilities were formed much earlier by the greats of pop, rock, jazz and soul who surrounded her as a child. She considers herself a musical chef, combining styles and textures to create songs, as one fan put it, "like everything you've heard and nothing you've heard, rolled into one." ... more
